BLADE DEFINITIONS

FIXED/STATIC BLADES

Both clippers and trimmers have fixed (also called static) and moving (also called cutting) blades. The reason why they are called Fixed/Static blades is that they don't move. Fixed/Static blades are used to comb and lift the hair so that the moving blade can grab and cut the hair.

Moving/cutting blades are the bottom blade and underneath the fixed blade. Moving blades oscilate back and forth horizontally to cut the hair. There are several different types of Fixed/Static and Moving/Cutting blades and all come in different materials as well.

MOVING/CUTTER BLADES

Both clippers and trimmers have "Moving" or "Cutter" blades that move back and forth to cut the hair. They come in different materials, and can have teeth that are slim, deep, or shallow.

PRO TIPS

BLADE MAINTENANCE

To maintain proper health and cleanliness to your blades, a regular cleaning with a blade or fade brush and using a dry cloth to wipe away excess is perfect for daily use and in between clients.

For deep cleaning, we recommend removing the blade from the tool (clipper, trimmer) wiping away excess debris, spraying with a disinfectant high-grade cleaner, wiping with a dry cloth, and adding a few drops of clipper/trimmer barber blade oil along the bottom of the teeth, not lower near the screw area. [For clippers, the oil should be applied while the clipper is moving, using 3 drops of oil. One on each side and one in the middle. Let the clipper run to lubricate the blades for 15 - 30 seconds. Shut off the clipper and wipe off any excess oil.]

*Failure to properly maintain your blade can result in skin irritation and cross contamination between clients possibly leading to infections.

BLADE ALIGNMENT

To align your blades, make sure that the movable top blade does not extend over the fixed bottom blade. If not installed properly, it can snag or drag on the skin.

Blade alignment is when the blades are parallel horizontally so that one edge of the cutting blade is not higher than the left or right side.

ZERO GAPPED

To Zero-gap is when the cutting blade is pushed up to match the fixed blade.

To achieve zero-gap on clippers, make sure your lever is in the shortest closed position and loosen the screws. Shift the fixed blade up or down to the desired gap. A true zero gap has no gap between the tip of the fixed blade and the moving blade. Once the blades are aligned to your liking tighten the screws again and check the blades for proper alignment. Do not over-tighten screws.

To achieve zero-gap on trimmers, remove both the fixed and moving blade. Loosen the screws of the moving blade which allows you to shift the moving blade up or down. In comparison to the fixed clipper blade depending on how tight you want your zero gap, shift the moving blade up or down but never past the fixed blade. If you want to achieve a true zero gap the tips of both blades are flush together. Once the blades are to your liking tighten the screws.

Fixed/Static Blades: As their name suggests, fixed blades don’t actually move. Their job is to comb through and lift the hair so it stays in place as the moving blades below cut the hair clean every time. Choosing the right fixed blade will depend on the cut and style of hair:

• Slim Deep Tooth: Lightweight, fast movements and longer teeth for more efficient general cutting and debulking.
• "The One": Provides an ultra-close cut for the crunchiest, smoothest finish with no pulling or snagging.
• Ceramic: Crafted from the most premium Ceramic that stays sharper for a long duration.

Each blade is designed to fit specific models, providing superior control and precision in every pass. What to look for when buying barber blades?

Not all blades are created equal. Here's what professionals and at-home groomers should prioritize:
• Material quality: Look for blades made from Japanese Stainless Steel, Black Diamond Carbon, or Premium Gold Titanium for durability.
• Compatibility: Ensure the blade matches your clipper or trimmer model.
• Cutting performance: Consider the tooth design, blade curvature, and zero-gap capability.
• Purpose: Different blade types are better suited for fading, edging, bulk removal, or fine detailing.

StyleCraft makes it easy to find exactly what you need with blades optimized for all major cutting techniques.

Choosing the right blade depends on the look you're going for and the tool you're using. We carry a wide range of options to help you achieve the perfect style every time.

• Faper Blade: The ideal all-purpose fixed clipper due to its Fade and Taper blend with added ridges for increased versatility.
• Deep Tooth Blade: Its longer teeth and wider gaps are ideal for bulk removal, with crunchy audible cutting for all hair types.

When in doubt, check your clipper or trimmer specs to confirm which blade types are compatible. You can also browse our replacement parts to find your perfect match.

Barber blade pricing varies depending on type, coating, and compatibility. Most StyleCraft blades range between $14.95 and $59.95.

Whatever your budget, you can find a professional-grade blade that meets your cutting needs without compromising quality.

Proper maintenance keeps your blades sharp and extends their lifespan. A high-quality barber blade can last between 2 and 6 months, depending on usage, hair type, and cleaning habits. Daily users may notice signs of dulling faster, especially when working with coarse or thick hair. Regular cleaning and oiling can significantly improve longevity and cutting performance. Here are a few key tips:
• Clean after every use: Use a small brush or compressed air to remove hair buildup.
• Oil regularly: Apply a few drops of blade oil to reduce friction and prevent rust.
• Store properly: Use blade covers or magnetic mats to avoid damage between uses.
• Replace when needed: Swap out worn blades with fresh ones from our replacement parts collection.
• Use with care: Avoid dropping tools and over-tightening screws to prevent misalignment or breakage.

You can also explore our barber accessories to support proper cleaning and storage.

Signs your blade needs to be replaced:
• Tugging or pulling: Hair no longer cuts smoothly, causing discomfort.
• Uneven results: Lines or fades look patchy or require multiple passes.
• Visible wear: Discoloration, corrosion, or chipped teeth on the blade.
• Overheating quickly: The blade gets hot faster than usual, indicating friction or dullness.
• Noise changes: Louder or rattling sounds during operation may signal poor alignment or dullness.

If you notice any of these signs, it's time to upgrade your blade. Replacing it promptly helps maintain your tool's performance and ensures every cut is clean, precise, and professional.
